Changes to our platform following the deprecation of the Instagram API as of April 2018

These changes took effect over the month of April, 2018. This article is now for reference only.

You may have read in the press today that Facebook have made the decision to make changes to the Instagram API. Facebook wishes to remove certain endpoints from the Instagram API to protect their users’ privacy.

The deprecation of the Instagram API, previously scheduled for July 31st, will now be happening in the coming days.

Here are the capabilities of our platform which will be affected, according to Instagram: (Please keep an eye on this FAQ, as all information listed here is subject to change within the coming weeks and we will be keeping it updated with information as and when we get it from Instagram.)

PROFILES & MEDIA (all plans)

  • The avatars of other users will no longer be displayed on the platform in the Media Viewer etc, except for those on your own profile. [Effective as of 19th April 2018.]

  • When you hover on a user’s username, it will no longer bring up a small overview of that user’s profile: [Effective as of 9th April 2018.]

  • You will no longer be able to like and unlike media on the platform. This applies to both Business Profiles and non-business profiles. [Effective as of 19th April 2018.]

Comments should still be visible on public media, however:

  • Non-business profiles will no longer be able to comment through our platform. [Effective as of 19th April 2018.]
  • Business Profiles will be able to comment only if their account has been mentioned in the caption/comment/tagged on the media. [Effective as of 19th April 2018.]
  • Deleting comments through the Comment Tracker will no longer be possible. [Effective as of 4th May 2018.]

 

Profile pages

UPDATE 24th APRIL 2018: For the time being ALL users' profile pages will open up in a new tab on www.instagram.com. We will update this FAQ with further changes.

  • Only Business Profiles will be able to view other users’ Profile pages (as seen in the screenshot below). [subject to change, see update above]
  • If the user they want to view is a Business Profile, they will see their:

Website
Bio
Some analytics (TBC)

  • If the user they want to view is a non-business profile, their Instagram profile will open up in a new tab on www.instagram.com. [See update above]

 

  • You will no longer be able to follow or unfollow users through our platform. This applies to both Business Profiles and non-business profiles. 

[Effective as of 9th April 2018.]

SEARCH ENGINES 

  • Classic search (on the left side of the below screenshot) will disappear for all users but hashtag search (on the right side of the below screenshot) will remain available for all users (all plans)

  • Advanced Media Search will be modified and some search criteria will be removed such as follower count. (ELITE, PRO, MASTER, ADVANCED, ENTERPRISE & AGENCY plans) [Effective as of 9th April 2018.]

 

INFLUENCER SEARCH

  • Influencer search will disappear very soon (ELITE, MASTER, ADVANCED, ENTERPRISE & AGENCY plans) [Effective as of 12th April 2018.]

 

FEEDS (all plans)

  • My Feeds will become available to verified Business Profiles only. [Effective as of 25th April 2018.]
  • It will only be possible to add Business Profiles as Users to Feeds [Effective as of 24th April 2018.]
  • Hashtags will still be available to add to Feeds
  • The My Tags/Mentions feed will remain available for Business Profiles only. (ADVANCED & AGENCY plans) On this feed, we can no longer display the @username of the account who has tagged/@mentioned you. [Effective as of 14th May 2018.] 
  • Liked feed will disappear for all users [Effective as of 17th April 2018.] 

 

ANALYTICS

Community

  • For non-business profiles: (all plans) 

Graphs left will be Follower Growth

  • For Business Profiles: (ELITE, PRO, MASTER, ADVANCED, ENTERPRISE & AGENCY plans)

Graphs left will be Follower Growth, followers’ location, Languages, Age & gender

The charts: Followers gained & lost, Distribution by number of followers, Reachability, Followers’ activity profile, Followers/following ratio and Privacy settings will be removed for all users. [Effective as of 12th April 2018.]

NOTE: To compensate for the loss of the Community Structure charts & Followers gained & lost graph, PLUS & STARTER users will now be able to verify as Business Profiles through the Community page in order to unlock follower demographic charts such as Followers’ location, Languages, Age & gender.

 

 

 

 

Hashtag tracking (ELITE, PRO, MASTER, ADVANCED, ENTERPRISE & AGENCY plans)

  • Still available, but we can no longer pull the Most influential users [Effective as of 9th April 2018.]

Competitors tracking (ELITE, PRO, MASTER, ADVANCED, ENTERPRISE & AGENCY plans)

  • Still available for Business Profiles only. Only other Business Profiles can be added as Competitors. [Effective as of 20th April 2018.]
  • Followings KPI and Filter Usage chart will both be removed. [Effective as of 20th April 2018.]
  • Avatars will be removed. [Effective as of 20th April 2018.]

 

FREE TOOLS 

The Instagram Brands Index and Instagram Influencers Index, previously available to customers and non-customers, will soon be completely shut down.  [Effective as of 13th April 2018.]

 

 

WIDGET

Due to a limited number of user tokens on the platform, the widget will be removed for all users who do not have an active trial or paid plan with us (for the Instagram handle being displayed on the widget feed). [Effective as of 30th April 2018.]

IG FEED TAB

Due to a limited number of user tokens on the platform, the IG Feed Tab will be removed for all users who do not have an active trial or paid plan with us (for the Instagram handle being displayed on the IG feed). This applies to both Free & Premium plans, so please contact us if you need a cancellation/refund on your Premium subscription. [Effective as of 30th April 2018.]
